Black backgrounds are available with the “Background” and “Color” buttons on the Lightbox. Using them can increase the contrast of your images for better readability.
If you’re wondering how your images look when you use a black background, please visit Adobe Lightroom and look at the histogram.
Here’s why color matters in Adobe Lightroom
To better understand why our backgrounds are so good, it’s helpful to look at why they’re so easy to use.
It comes down to the fact that white in a dark room has a lot of blue and grays in it, so that white can’t be seen.
White backgrounds in a dark room only have red and grays, making it easy to see.
The “Color” and “Background” buttons on the Lightbox make black backgrounds look much more lifelike. Use your imagination to see what kind of effects you can get from using them.
Can I use these tools on a white background?
No, you can’t.
There’s a subtle red tint to the background of white backgrounds, so it’s not realistic to do a black background (although you can in some cases with the darkbox.)
How do I edit my photos?
If your photos are already black or white, it’s simple to edit them with Lightroom.
In most cases, you might use Photoshop (but it’s possible to edit photos with Lightroom.) The process is very similar, so I’d recommend clicking this screenshot to see what’s involved.
How often should I turn the filter on in Lightroom?
This is a personal preference, but I use the Filter on/off dialog box to help me find exactly what I’m looking for and make sure it’s turned on when I want it to be.
How do I clean my photos with Adobe Lightroom?
Like I mentioned earlier, I use the Filter on/off dialog box to help me find exactly what I’m looking for and make sure it’s turned off when I want it to be.
Do you like these filters? Are there any filter settings you think could be made better? Leave a comment below.
Update: The filters I use may have changed over the years.
This is my first time participating in a Reddit AMA, I was hoping to connect with some of the other moderators here on SRS to ask them questions and hopefully get some useful answers. Thank
