There is also a musical characteristic that is characteristics of a particular genre which includes melody, harmony, rhythm and intensity of the compositions of the musical genres. For example, you might use the term ‘pop’ to denote a genre with two aspects to the music; melody, harmony, rhythm, and intensity. We think that it is important for people to understand two aspects of musical sound together, to understand the “sound” of an “artist”, not just the words on a record and not just the words on one album.
Q. How is it that you can distinguish a genre based upon the words of one artist from another? A. In music, we have found that the first part of musical characteristics that are used can be used to distinguish genres. We also use this approach to describe the second part of musical characteristics, meaning that genres may be more or less intense. Some music genres, for example, do not have any “key” to their music. This is a good example of this. Another example would be a genre that has an instrumental element to it which some people may use for example, jazz as “rap music”. The jazz element is just a part of the music and should not be confused with what is the overall musical sound or composition of the piece.
