Is DHHS state or federal? – Financial Help For Families In Need

In July 2016 in a report prepared for the governor and a group of state and local leaders he said “if the federal government gets engaged in this, which it already is involved in with our schools, they’ll certainly lose a lot of the local control over this.”

However, since his announcement, an overwhelming majority of the board has endorsed the idea of state involvement. While most recently the school board’s decision supported the current federal strategy, the board in 2016 also voted to support state leadership in the aftermath of the mass shooting of 50 elementary school children in Newtown, Connecticut, that left 25 people dead.

In a news release announcing the vote, Board Chairwoman Patricia Jones said the board’s stance came at the request of the Governor and was part of the broader school safety discussion and “the state board will consider the state’s proposed policies when it makes its recommendations to the Governor on the district’s next school safety plan”.

“In light of recent events, a focus on local control and prevention measures are more critical than ever,” she wrote.

How do I join?

The next board meeting is scheduled for September 7th. This is a public meeting so you can join if you’re not at the meeting and would like the chance to participate.

If you’re at the meeting you can sign up to volunteer for free to attend the board meeting in person. Volunteerers go under the guise of “community building” and are there to get people involved with their group or group-building exercise. At the meeting volunteers will be asked to wear shirts identifying their group affiliation in order to participate. There are a set number of shirts needed and you do not have to wear a shirt. If you have any questions, please contact Jennifer at jennifer.v.nall@ohia.us

It’s an open meeting like most other meetings in the district.
